Eight National Youth Games 2024: Delta, Edo State wins gold in the U15 rugby 7s for boys and girls
With 182 athletes from different states vying for gold, the rugby sevens competition at the 8th National Youth Games in Asaba, 2024, saw a high level of fierce dedication and a showcase of speed and talent. In the hotly contested U-15 Boys division, host team Delta defeated team Kano 7-0 in the championship match to take gold, while Edo State defeated Kwara 19-0 to claim the bronze medal.
In the U-15 Girls division, Team Edo defeated Delta, the reigning champions, 5-0 in a thrilling championship match that ended in a tie in both normal time and sudden death. Drop goal points were used to decide the game; Team Edo won because they kicked one while Delta missed all three. In another hotly contested match for third place, newcomers Team Abia State defeated Ogun State 5-0 to win bronze.
Dr. Ademola Are, the President of the NRFF assured that more tournaments would be held by the Federation to support their growth. Now is the ideal time for you to grow as a person. Dr. Are further praised the Delta State Government and Ministry of Youth and Sports and clarified that the Federal Government has provided the Boys and Girls with a significant chance to visit Delta and demonstrate their abilities.
The boys and girls put on a fantastic show, the General Secretary; Oludare Davies praised them and warned them to avoid social vices and to keep working hard in their training to succeed. In addition, General Manager Mr. Azeez Ladipo took advantage of the occasion to introduce T1 Rugby to the teams and pledged increased widespread involvement.
