Racing, Cowrie Maintain Dominance As Eco 11 Stages Shock Win Against Former Champions Nigeria Police

Racing RFC and Cowrie RFC continue to showcase their dominance in the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation National League (South West Zone).

The Lagos-based side, Racing RFC, kept their perfect start to the season intact with an impressive 43 -14 victory over Ogun State Kings.

Racing’s Emmanuel Ayewe and Stephen James put up a stellar performance for the league leaders who secured another bonus point having scored more than 4 tries in 2 consecutive games. Racing Fullback; Monday Alex converted 4 tries to further extend the points leading their team to a decisive win.

Donald Jonak and Besaan Gbenga scored for debutants Ogun State Kings with a promising performance.

Meanwhile, Cowrie RFC proved their resilience with a hard-fought 19-12 victory against Gosar. Cowries prop; Sunday Bassey powered over the whitewash twice to score and captain Onoru Jatto returned to play after an injury scare in week one to score one try. The duo were instrumental in securing the win for Cowrie at the main bowl of the National Stadium, Surulere.

The weekend’s biggest surprise came from Eco 11 RFC who bounced back from an opening day loss—led by their irrepressible captain, Kiki Stephen, Scrum Half; Fawaz Oseni, and Prop; Azuka Chika. Eco 11 showed remarkable determination to achieve a 12-0 victory over former league champions, Police RFC.

In the women’s event, Gosar Women RFC added to the Police RFC’s woes with a commanding 22-0 win. This match highlighted Gosar Women’s dominance in the league.

Looking ahead to Matchday 3, Racing RFC holds the top spot in the men’s category with ten points, closely followed by Cowrie RFC with nine points. In the women’s category, Gosar Women RFC leads with six points, while Eco 11 RFC and Nigeria Police RFC hope to turn their fortunes around in the next round of matches.
