Rugby Rising Expands Nationwide Drive to Empower Girls — Ajegunle Joins the Movement

The Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF) has intensified its mission to empower girls through sport as the Rugby Rising Supervisor, Wuraola Hussain, led her team to Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Council to formally introduce the Rugby Rising Play programme to the heart of Ajegunle.

Welcomed by the Director-General of Sports, McAnthony Anaelechukwu, the engagement centered on a powerful vision: using rugby as a transformative tool to get more girls into sport, build self-confidence, advance health and hygiene education, and protect young girls from early pregnancy and other social risks.

Backed by World Rugby and Rugby Africa, Rugby Rising is rolling out across 20 states, making Lagos—and now Ajegunle—key beneficiaries of a national commitment to shaping stronger, safer and more resilient girls through the values of rugby.

The DG pledged full council support, including fields, equipment logistics, and grassroots mobilization. Both parties agreed to kick off with a Training-the-Trainers Clinic in January 2026 at the council secretariat, ensuring local coaches and educators are equipped to deliver the programme sustainably.

The visit concluded with the presentation of balls and jerseys, and a unifying call of “Rugby Rising!”—signaling the beginning of a bold new chapter for girls in Ajegunle.
