The curtain has fallen on the Rugby Sevens event at the 9th National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, with Edo State Girls and Kano State Boys emerging as champions after two days of exciting rugby action.
In the Girls’ Rugby 7s, Edo State proved their dominance with consistent performances throughout the tournament. They capped off their campaign with a hard-fought 7–5 victory over Delta State in the gold medal match, while Rivers State secured bronze with a solid 5–0 win against Abia State.
In the Boys’ Rugby 7s, Kano State showcased speed, power, and discipline to defeat hosts Delta State 10–0 in the final, clinching the gold medal. Edo State, despite their efforts, had to settle for bronze after a 17–0 win over Abia State in the third-place playoff.

The Rugby Sevens competition at this year’s Games featured spirited performances, with young players demonstrating exceptional skill, discipline, and passion for the sport.
The Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF) commended all participating states and athletes for their commitment, emphasizing that the event not only identified future national stars but also reinforced rugby’s role in youth development and sporting excellence in Nigeria.
“The performances we witnessed in Asaba reflect the bright future of rugby in Nigeria. These young boys and girls are the foundation of our national teams, and their courage and talent inspire us all,” said an NRFF spokesperson.
With Edo and Kano taking home the top honors, the 2025 Rugby Sevens at the National Youth Games has set the stage for even greater participation and growth across the country.
